Founded in 1921 as a "Workshop for the processing of brass and nickel silver sheet metal, with foundry", Alessi
has always stood out for the high quality of its products. In almost a century of history, the company has gradually evolved to become one of the leading "Factories of Italian design", capable of applying its expertise and excellence in design management to many different product types.
It seems in recent years that Australia, homeland of the famous Mark Newson, is becoming a crucible of young, dynamic and interesting designers. This large centrepiece by the young designer Abi Alice revisits a theme already addressed in Italian design: that of the sheet steel cut first flat, then bent and welded to achieve its final form, recalling the basket designed by Bruno Munari for Danese in the50s and the experiments of Silvio Coppola for us in the early 70s, but done with such new grace and freshness as to merit production.
